We're recruiting!
House and Family Room volunteers
As an independent, not-for-profit organisation, volunteers are an invaluable to our operations. You’ll be involved in a number of roles, from housekeeping to administration, special events and cooking meals for our families.
Your role ensures our Houses (North Fitzroy, Parkville, Clayton) and Family Rooms (Monash Children’s Hospital and Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital) run smoothly, by keeping spaces clean, comfortable and well-stocked. Plus, there’s the option to drive our shuttle bus, operating from North Fitzroy.
To join us, you must complete an online application and be available for a phone interview.
Compliance and requirements
Ronald McDonald House Victoria & Tasmania will cover the cost of required compliance checks.
You will need:
A valid Working With Children Check (VIC) or Working With Vulnerable People registration (TAS), or willingness to obtain
A clear Police Check
Agreement to our policies and procedures
To be 18+ (or 26+ for shuttle bus drivers)
A valid driver’s license (for shuttle bus roles only)
Please note:
While volunteering will directly impact children and families, you may not be volunteering directly with children. There are often children staying at the House, however volunteers are frequently on shift while families are at the hospital.
Additional compliance requirements (including immunisations) apply for volunteering in Family Rooms, depending on the hospital
Student placements can only be signed off after completing six months of service
“After a long, exhausting day at the hospital, walking into the House to find a warm meal waiting for us, or seeing a friendly face – it all helped. It all made a difference.”
Mother of Mia, a child with Leukemia.
From our hearts to yours, thank you
Without the generosity of our volunteers, we couldn’t serve the thousands of families each year that we do. From everyone here at Ronald McDonald House Victoria & Tasmania, thank you.
We know the demand for our care is only rising. More than ever, families with seriously ill children need us. We need you.
