Volunteer spotlight: meet Gary

Ronald McDonald House relies on the dedication and support of volunteers like Gary.

Gary’s connection to Ronald McDonald House began when his son, Nicolas, underwent cancer treatment at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.

His family travelled from Bendigo, and were welcomed into Ronald McDonald House Parkville. For Gary and his family, the House became home. They returned many times as cancerous cells continued to return to Nicolas’ leg. From then on, Gary knew he wanted to pay it forwards and help other families get the support they needed. Once he retired, he became a proud volunteer for us.

“I knew I wanted to give back to all those people that helped my family when we needed it.”

Gary has been volunteering at Ronald McDonald House Parkville and North Fitzroy for two years, running our family shuttle bus service and keeping our peaceful gardens immaculate. Nicolas is a healthy young adult, and Gary continues to make a world of difference to families with sick children.

Thanks to the generosity of volunteers like Gary, we’ve been able to continually expand our operations and help more families with sick children.
