Volunteer spotlight: meet Charlie

Ronald McDonald House relies on the dedication and support of volunteers like Charlie.

Charlie Mizzi was a dedicated volunteer at Ronald McDonald House Monash from the very beginning.

When we opened in 1993, he arrived with a passion for helping the community, whether it meant maintenance improvements, BBQ-ing, or stellar raffle ticket selling at fundraising events. Over his 27 years as a volunteer, he spent approximately 78,840 hours caring for families when they needed it most.

Charlie sadly passed away in July 2020, leaving a gap in the hearts of our staff, volunteers and families. “It feels like we have lost a big part of our family”, shares CEO Peter Bishop.

Thanks to the generosity and kindness of volunteers like Charlie, we’ve been able to continually expand our operations and help more families with sick children.
